Do you ever feel like your life suddenly looks a lot different than it did yesterday?
With a move, two babies, a preschooler, a quickly-growing business and everything else under the sun going on, life has been BUSY lately. Let’s talk about balance for a minute. That elusive WORD. BALANCE. We all want it, but does it really exist? Here are my thoughts… balance is like riding a bike. In order to stay on the bike, you’re shifting your weight from left to right. You never just FIND balance and stay there. It’s a constant shift. Sometimes all your weight is more to one side than the other. And the next curve you take you shift your weight to the other side. Good news is, unless you hit a rock, you’re probably still upright.
And that’s life. Especially over here these days. Some days I have to throw my attention more to work and sometimes I have to turn it more to my family. Sick kiddo? Throw my “weight” to that side and shut the computer off. Big launch day? Be unendingly grateful that we have an amazing nanny for the twins and school for B, grab a big cup of coffee and buckle down. Some days I’m able to give my all to everything that needs me. And some days, mama needs a big glass of wine and a pedicure… am I right? Or a nap zzzzzzzzz… I digress. :)
Lately I’ve found that the season I’m in my family requires my undivided attention one day and business needs me more than usual the next. Over the past year and a half I’ve had to take countless days / weeks / months away from work to pour myself into my family. And that’s the beautiful, hard, exhausting, incredible season I’m in. This verse has been ringing in my heart lately – “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens…” (Ecclesiastes 3 / NIV). That whole passage is just beautiful. Here’s a little bit I was reading this morning:
What do workers gain from their toil? I have seen the burden God has laid on the human race. He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God. I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. (Ecclesiastes 3:9-14 / NIV)
Just a little encouragement to embrace the season of life you’re in. It will always change and ebb and flow and the true success of life is knowing when to shift this way… and when to shift that way…
