Hi, y’all! I’m a Southern girl from Mobile who was raised on some of the most beautiful shores in places like Hawaii, Florida and Puerto Rico. But after a night of salsa dancing with the cutest country man, I surrendered my love for ocean waves in exchange for the green, rolling hills of Oklahoma. Just like my travels, my life is constantly changing as a retired ballerina, former public relations extraordinaire, now wedding coordinator for the amazing Christina of Christina Leigh Events, Pilates instructor, blogger, editor and all around lover of celebrating what matters. My heart goes pitter patter for farmers markets, beautiful parties, authentic people and of course my Big Man. (All images by Emily Hughes of Something Gold Photography.)
I am SO THRILLED to introduce Katie! Guys, if you’re not following her blog, you should. She is such a genuine gal and has a background in the arts (so do I!) so I love reading her take on things. Thanks for sharing your pick six with us, Katie!
NESPRESSO: Every morning, I start my day with my two must haves – a whole lot of coffee and a whole lot of Jesus. I open my Bible and read Scripture while my Nespresso machine makes my double shot for the day. I love Nespresso machines because they are fairly budget friendly, make awesome espresso and provide the best customer service. Completely worth the investment.
POLAR WATCH HEART RATE MONITOR: As a Pilates instructor I spend about half of my days teaching classes and working out. If you know my story, you know I had a some anxiety attacks two years ago (too much perfection, not enough grace) and discovered that my heart had a leaky valve and beats irregularly. So, I use my Polar Watch to monitor my heart and keep it in check especially during cardio. I highly recommend a heart rate monitor watch for anyone who works out to keep check on your heart health and if you get a cute, fancy one like this it will even tell you how many calories you’re burning. That means one spin class may equal to one tall pumpkin spice latte? Um, yes!
LEGAL ZOOM: I have a huge surprise I have been working on for the past few weeks – I’m starting my own business. And here’s one hint: creatives are going to love it! Now I don’t know about y’all, but the last thing I want to do while setting up a new business is spend most of my time trying to figure out how to legally set it up. OK, so maybe I did for a few weeks, however, that was until my brother told me about Legal Zoom. Basically, Legal Zoom takes the guessing out of legally setting up your new business. Pretty cool, huh? So one afternoon, I filled out all of their forms answering what kind of business I am creating, names, etc., submitted it and they took care of the rest. Super simple, and now I can focus on branding and building!
RAINBOOTS: Being the Southern girl that I am (shout out to folks in my hometown of Mobile, Alabama!), I always keep rain boots in the car for last minute trips to the country or river. I love when my hubby and I spontaneously decide to head out, our yellow lab Savannah gets so excited. So to always be prepared, I keep some wellies in the trunk for anything from fishing to firefly catching. (I love these from Joules!)
CHANEL ALLURE SENSUELLE: So you may not think of perfume as something to simplify your life, but I do! Some people are wine snobs or coffee snobs, I guess you could say that I’m a perfume snob. For years I have searched for the perfect scent, trying on more fragrances than I can tell from all over, searching for something that is both fresh and mysterious, sweet and dramatic. Well, I found it in Chanel Allure Sensuelle. It can either be picked up at a Chanel boutique or ordered online. Ladies, this is seriously, the best day to night perfume I have found. I wish I could send each for you samples, but you will have to hop over to Chanel and sniff for yourself.
MY OTHER HALF: Of course, my Big Man. Not only does my hubby Nate still give me butterflies when he flashes that gorgeous grin at me, but he is my biggest supporter and sometimes coach. It’s hard enough for us creatives to punch fear in the face and make things happen alone, but having someone there by your side to be honest, encouraging and loving can make all the difference. And because of our more than one foot height difference, he can get things out of the high cabinets for me, haha. I love that man!
Ok, I almost got a little choked up when I read the last of Katie’s pick six. I need a pick twelve to share the people that make my life easier and more joyful. What a good hubby you have there, Katie.
